Spencer Hardy Welch is a composer, pianist and speaker who has been writing and performing music for most of his life. Raised in a musical family, he began a love affair with the piano at the age of five and started formal classical training when he was eight.
After choosing a career in public education, Spencer continued to compose and perform music as an avocation. Between 1994 and 1997, however, he took a leave from his teaching and coaching roles to focus full time on further musical development. During this period, Spencer recorded an album of original piano compositions, THUNDERHEAD, composed the theme music for a television pilot, and performed widely in concerts and private engagements throughout the western United States. Returning to his first great passion of education in 1997, Spencer served as a high school principal, a school district central office executive, and the Interim Director of University of Washington’s Danforth Educational Leadership Program, before turning to leadership consulting work in 2012. He presently divides his time between leadership consulting, public speaking, and music.
