On Saturday, October 13th over 140 Kirkland community members and local arts supporters attended Kirkland Performance Center’s annual auction and gala, Shining Star for KPC. Of special note in attendance were Amy Walen, Mayor of Kirkland; Joan McBride, Washington House of Representatives, District 48; Patty Kuderer, Washington State Senate, 48th District; Claudia Balducci, King County Councilmember; Vandana Slatter, Washington State House of Representatives, 48th District; and Shelley Kloba, Washington State House of Representatives, 1st District.
This year the event took place at KPC for the first time in years, and gave guests a backstage tour along with a progressive dinner. It was an exciting way to get KPC supporters into the theater, while allowing them a more behind the scenes experience. The evening was inspired by the disco and funk era, and many guests enjoyed the opportunity to dress up in 70’s attire.
At the event, KPC honored both the 2018 Champion of the Arts, Kathe Fowler, and 2018 Artist of the Year, Seattle Rock Orchestra. After the live auction guests danced the night away to Seattle band, Funky 2 Death.
With the support of everyone in attendance and even some generous donations from patrons who could not attend, KPC raised over $105,000. This support is vital to keep KPC’s doors open for our community, and this critical funding allows KPC to be the cultural and artistic center of the Eastside. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
