Artist Bio

Grammy winner, Grammy nominee, mother, activist Paula Cole has released seven solo albums of original songs, spanning a 20+ year career.  Cole has performed with icons in many genres of music from Peter Gabriel to Dolly Parton, Herbie Hancock to Emmylou Harris; Amy Lee of Evanescence to Burt Bacharach.  Cole’s emotionally deep, thrilling performances, and her poetic, fierce and intelligent writing makes Cole a primary color against pastels.  Her compositions have been covered by a diverse range of artists (Herbie Hancock, Annie Lennox, Katherine McPhee, JoJo, i.e.) and she has sold approximately 3 million albums.  From the small town of Rockport, Massachusetts, Paula was raised in a musical family (her father Jim Cole was a professional bass player) with whom she and her daughter Sky remain close.  Cole is a scholarship alumna from Berklee College of Music with a background in jazz, received her first record deal with a jazz label (which she declined), and has collaborated with many artists of extremely diverse backgrounds.  Paula teaches and gives clinics in a spirit of giving back to the circle of music.  With a loving allegiance to her fans, she maintains loyal communication online and after her live shows. As the first woman in history to solely produce and receive the best Producer Grammy nomination for her work, “This Fire”, Cole has broken boundaries with a searcher’s spirit. From her top ten hits of the 1990’s to her more recent, critically acclaimed albums, Paula Cole continues to write, produce, record and perform heartfelt, meaningful, lasting music that defies categorization.

This year Paula is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of This Fire, the double-platinum album, released on Warner Bros Records in 1996, her sophomore effort, entirely self-produced.  It garnered two breakout Billboard charting hits “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?” and “I Don’t Want to Wait,” This Fire was nominated for seven awards at the 40th Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Best Pop Album, “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?” for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Cole was also nominated for Producer of the Year (the first woman in Grammy history to be solely nominated as Best Producer) and won the Grammy award for Best New Artist.  She will be performing “This Fire” in its entirety this year at select performances.
