Most re-known for Platinum and Gold recording hits such as “Low Rider”, “Cisco Kid”, “Slippin’ Into Darkness”, “City Country City” and “Why Cant We Be Friends”, and founding member of the chart-topping jam-band WAR, Lee has performed with numerous icons of music, including Jimi Hendrix and Eric Burdon. Immediately recognized for his compositions, Lee’s first solo work was named Billboard’s “Best Instrumental Album of the Year” in 1976. A on-going series of notable releases, including “Before the Rain”, “My Road, Our Road”, ”BLT” and “So Much In Love”, Lee’s musical compositions, song styling and live performances have been acclaimed in over 35 countries around the world and used in numerous movie soundtracks and commercials.
Paralleling early musical recognition, Lee’s 1976-1986 pen-and-ink drawings (or “visual works”) were selected for publication in the1994 Journey Editions collection entitled “Musicians As Artists”. Further demonstrating the process of continual artistic evolution, Lee’s recent paintings explore a wide range of visual vocabularies; from classic pictorial compositions like “Paddling on a Calm Day”, to the silhouette super-graphic images of “Winter Scenes 1-5”. The artist describes his visual work as, “A process of using light in a variety ways to capture the moment, bringing out the beauty of the colors, feelings and mood.”
Lee’s highly personal, yet universal creative expressions connect with audiences from around the world. Lee continues this life-long exploration and evolution of the creative process; composing, producing, performing and painting…delighting audiences of all ages and from all walks of life.
