Party through the New Year at Kirkland Performance Center (KPC) with the arguably the greatest living rock and soul musician in the Pacific Northwest! The "Bell" portion of Gamble & Huff's well-known 1970s songwriting team "Bell and James," LeRoy Bell has written music for Elton John, Gladys Knight & the Pops, The Temptations, The O'Jays, and many more. As the songwriting team "Bell and James," LeRoy went on to sign with A&M Records in 1978 where he created three albums and several hit tunes including "Livin' It Up (Friday Night),” which hit #7 on the Billboard Black singles. Today, LeRoy Bell calls Seattle home, and on December 31, he will introduce his latest album, appropriately titled "Rock N' Soul" at KPC in honor of 2014.
"Rock N' Soul" is LeRoy's sixth album and certainly his most anticipated since expanding his global presence as a Top Ten Finalist on the first season of the "X Factor" (2011). As you will hear on the album, and at the December 31 concert LeRoy comfortably embraces a wide range of genres. He’s a passionate soul and R&B singer, a powerful blues rocker and equally at home as an acoustic folk singer, capable of captivating an audience with intimate performances. He has shared the stage with many greats including Etta James, B.B. King, Al Green, India.Arie, Los Lobos, Michael McDonald, and others.
This New Years Eve, LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends will send out 2013 with rock, soul and so much more, pulling material from their six records and years of international touring. Hosted by Seattle radio broadcaster and funny-man Marty Riemer, and featuring an opening set from vintage indie blues rock band Red Jacket Mine, New Year's Eve at Kirkland Performance Center will be a rare and powerful treat!
LeRoy Bell's "Only Friends" (his band), features Terry Morgan on bass who has played with Dee Daniels, Pat Wright & The Total Experience Gospel Choir, Dave Lewis, Thelma Houston and others. The mighty force on drums features Davis Martin, formerly of the band, Maktub.
Your ticket includes one complimentary beverage for a New Year's toast. 21 and over.
The Bell family legacy extended from Philly to Seattle when Thom Bell, LeRoy's uncle and third member of Mighty Three Music (along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff), opened up the west coast offices of Mighty Three Music in the late 70's.
As a young staff writer, LeRoy teamed up with Casey James and wrote songs that would be recorded by The Spinners, The O'Jays, The Temptations, Rita Marley and most notably Elton John. In the late 70's Elton John discovered and quickly became a fan of LeRoy's song writing - recording two of his songs. Elton's recording of Bell's song "Mama Can't Buy Me Love," from the "Thom Bell Sessions," went to #9 pop, #36 R&B, and #1 Adult/Contemporary in the fall of 1979 - earning Elton a Grammy Nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. That same year, Bell and James had their own million-seller with "Livin' It Up (Friday Night)" on A&M Records. 2003 brought new life for LeRoy as the Fat Boy Slim mix of Elton's "Are you Ready For Love," (composed by Bell) reached #1 in England and most of Europe. LeRoy reinvented himself emerging as a singer/songwriter releasing the acclaimed EP "Spending Time" on his own label, Martez Music Group. After "Spending Time" sold over 15,000 copies, he released "Two Sides to Every Story" and his career was officially re-born.
