Length: 1 hour

Francisco is the son of Mexican migrant farmers, and is just starting the first grade. Because he doesn’t speak English and can’t understand his teacher, Francisco finds himself drawn to the caterpillar that lives in a jar near his desk. Entranced by the caterpillar’s transformative powers, Francisco draws a picture of what he imagines it will look like when it finally bursts from its cocoon. Follow Francisco on this journey from isolation and confusion to freedom and friendship. This autobiographical story is presented bilingually, celebrating the many forms of self-expression.

Spanish and English are woven together as Book-It’s signature style maintains much of the narration in this adaptation of La Mariposa

When this well known brother and sister duo decide to explore the woods without their parents’ permission, they run into a sweetie of a Top Chef who delights and dabbles in the art of confection. Silly, starving and hungry to create a new dish, this crazy kitchen witch tries to turn Hansel into her next meal, only to find that some things are best left uneaten.

We have an extraordinary A World of Arts Educational Outreach Program this season and will be sending you a separate brochure describing opportunities to bring our acclaimed touring artists into your classroom soon.  If you can’t wait, check out A World of Arts information here.

School Matinee Guidelines
Please arrive 30 minutes before the performance begins.  Bring enough teachers and adult chaperones to supervise all of the students in your group. We suggest a ratio of at least one adult to 10 children.

Each student, teacher and chaperone in attendance must have paid for admission to that performance.
