Black Lives Matter

June 10, 2020 in Uncategorized

In this momentous time in American history, with so many openly recognizing a need for actual change for systematic equality, Kirkland Performance Center stands in support of those changes and in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Through the brave conversations, acts and protests that have occurred since the unjust and tragic death of George Floyd, we have listened, we have learned, and we are going to be part of the change.

Those of us at KPC feel strongly that the arts must not only be responsive to change, we must be an instrument of change.  Through the programming selected to cross our stage, we have the capacity to reflect the importance of Black culture, why it has mattered to our nation, and why it will continue to matter.

We promise to take an inward look at our own organization to ensure we are continuing to champion diverse programming, specifically programming that gives greater visibility to the Black community. The artists that cross our stage are storytellers, through music, theater and live performance. We look forward to presenting more stories that listen to and celebrate Black lives. By doing this we will be able to protect and promote the changes we strive to see in our culture.

Black Lives Matter.

Sincerely,

Jeff Lockhart, Executive Director
