Description
Nature writer Robert Macfarlane said “if snow could sing, it would sing like Julie Fowlis.” Raised in the Outer Hebrides and now based in the Highlands, Julie Fowlis is a multi-award-winning singer whose music is steeped in Hebridean and Highland tradition. She was named Musician of the Year at the 2023 Scots Trad Music Awards and is known for singing the theme songs to Disney Pixar’s Oscar-winning film Brave. She was vocal coach for the Eric Whitacre Singers on the Dreamworks Animation How To Train Your Dragon 3: The New World (Cressida Cowell, score by John Powell) in Abbey Road Studios, London in 2018.
Her voice has filled venues from Carnegie Hall to the Royal Albert Hall, and she’s performed for TV audiences of over a billion, including the opening ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She’s collaborated with artists like James Taylor, KT Tunstall, and Nicola Benedetti, and currently performs with folk supergroup Spell Songs. Scotland’s inaugural National Gaelic Ambassador, Julie holds an honorary doctorate from Robert Gordon University and continues to champion Gaelic language and culture worldwide.
