Born in Ghazvin, Iran, composer Reza Vali’s vibrant works blend the traditional music of Iran with contemporary styles, bringing distinct Persian sounds to chamber and orchestral ensembles. Two acclaimed interpreters of Vali’s music join the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra for this performance. Mezzo-soprano Janna Baty is a faculty member at Yale University School of Music and has been hailed by the Boston Globe for her “rapturous, luminous lyricism.” A master of the traditional Persian santur, Hamid Taghavi is renowned for his work with Persian music legends such as Alireza Eftekhari, Hamid Noorbakhsh, and Homayoun Shajariyan.
